I have been driving the Galaxie with just such a muffler separation for a couple of months, and wired the muffler in place. Still waiting on getting around to going to the muffler shop.

Lovely weld, though.

When I was in the Army, I had my first car, a ‘76 Nova. Straight-six, three-speed manual. Pretty decent car, in all, and it pops up in my dreams once in a while, though when it does, I’m always driving it on or near Fort Polk, where I owned the car in the mid 80s.

Anyhow, when I sold the car to my pal, he lost the ignition key and sawed apart the column by way of hot wiring the car, and installed a big push button for the starter, and a big ignition switch, both from a deuce-and-a-half truck. I figured out that if I was rolling forward, I could turn off the ignition, roll a short distance, and switch the ignition back on and produce a VERY LOUD backfire. Which we had great fun repeating, until the muffler split open, and then that feature didn’t work any more.
